Is religion more important than being a better human being?

27 08 2007

I wonder sometimes what’s more important to a person….religion or being a good human being. Isn’t the purpose of religions such as Hinduism, Muslim, Sikhism, Christianity, Judaism, etc to teach how to be preach peace and humanity, respect one and another and most of all be a better person.

It is sad to see that there are people in this world who would use religion as a tool to achieve their personal agendas. There are people in this world that would twist and turn every word in the holy books and use it against other religions and try to gain more power and money. Terrorism flourishes and Wars happen when people misinterpret religion and its teachings. Like, Muslim nations feel threatened by the Western countries as they believe these countries are trying to convert every person to Christianity. But the motives could be anything from Oil, Defense Corporation contracts, Money, Power, etc. Religion is used as a means for war and terrorism. Various religious leaders have tried to influence the mind of the young, the uneducated by turning them against other religions and most of all against other human beings.

India has been the country which faces the most of amount of terrorist activity apart from Iraq.   Recently, Hyderabad was the target of terrorist activities and it now joins the list of major cities Mumbai, Delhi, Varanasi, J & K across India who have experienced how some religious militant fools would do anything when told by their religious and militant leaders, even if it means taking hundreds of lives.

But, hats off to the spirit and courage of the Indians, coz we have been bouncing back from all these atrocities since 1947 and still continue to live as one nation without any fear. And, we all live as one and in peace and harmony and are better human beings. We will show to the world that even in the face of terror, we won’t wage any war.

Changing Lives

17 08 2007

As most of philosophers and scientists have been saying since so many generations – “The only thing that is constant is Change.”  Everything and everyone changes at some point of time or the other. There is nothing in this world that cannot be affected by change. Change can be good or bad but it always happens for a reason. You learn a lot from changes around you.

Circumstances change which leads to change in way of life. The way of life affects how people change their behavior. Changes in behavior leads to changes in relationships.

I’ve been a part of this change cycle myself. Since the start of 2007, quite a few things have changed in my life. All for the good, I must say.  I’ve grown a lot as a person in the last 8 months. And although most of my friends & family would disagree but I feel I’ve become more mature.  Quite a few of my relationships have changed coz of the change in me.  I’ve made new friends, formed strong bonds with other friends but then some bonds seem to get weak as days go by. But like I said before, you learn from every change and this is my learning process.
