Randomness – Part IV

30 11 2006

– I just have this strong feeling that says that my life is about to change. I don’t know if that change will be good or bad and I don’t know what will cause that change. But sometimes, you just know that something is about to happen and it happens without you even knowing it.

– Its Holiday season…Thanksgiving and now Christmas….good times for everyone to spend with their family and closed ones. I wish I was back home this christmas and was spending time with my family. It sucks to live alone and not seeing your family for such a long time. Mom, Dad, Bro…I miss you all!!

– I can’t believe we still have people rioting in various parts of the country and destroying public property in the name of caste and religion. I am deeply saddened by the events and I pray to God that he puts some sense in these people who cause these riots. They don’t understand that its their money which goes to the restoration process of these properties and then they complain about higher taxes. I blame the media for spreading such kind of news that would provoke violence and rioting.

– Indian crickets sucks!!! Sack all the players and stop playing cricket. Fine all those players who don’t score and don’t get wickets. Pay should only be based on performace. Make them earn their place in the team and make them earn their money.

– I am glad that Laxman and Ganguly are back in the Test team. However, I feel Anil Kumble should have been appointed the vice-captain and not Laxman. Sehwag needs to go home and think about his future. And Sachin should be told by the team management to adopt the more aggressive role. There should be only one strategy- Attack!!!

– Lastly, I feel i need to take a break….a big break….not from work but from all these crazy thoughts that run into my head. I need to relax and let things flow and not be concerned about anything and anyone.

Tina Fey – Queen of Comedy

14 11 2006

Tina Fey - Queen of ComedyIf you watched ‘Saturday Night Live‘ and ‘30 Rock‘, then you will agree that the reigning Queen of Comedy couldn’t be anyone than Tina Fey.

I love comedies and I believe comedy is the toughest form of acting. Being funny does not include making funny faces but keeping a straight face while saying a joke or making a simple line into a joke. And Tina Fey is the best at it.

Hollywood hasn’t produced any actress that can be categorized as a comedy queen. We have Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn who run the comedy movie business. Sure, we have Drew Barrymore , Cameron Diaz but they can t carry a comedy movie on their sholuders. Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are funny but there aren’ t that successful in the movies. The only person I feel can do a comedy movie without requiring the services of a big actor is Tina Fey.

If you don’t believe watch ’30 Rock’ and you will understand every bit of it. That show is developed and scripted by Tina Fey & produced by NBC. Along with her as the main character, it stars Alec Baldwin and Tracy Morgan. The show is based on her experiences on SNL and is a situational comedy. Her writing skills got recognition by becoming the first head female writer for SNL.

By the way, did I mention that she is very very cute?? She has the looks of a nerd with glasses but still appear so cute. She too considered herself a “supernerd” during her high school and college years. She was once voted by the People Magazin one of the most 50 beautiful people. Whenever I watch her on TV, be it SNL, 30 Rock, Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Jay Leno and others…I can t stop saying to myself…”Man, she s a cutie!”

Bollywood needs to be classy

10 11 2006

I was having this discussion with a friend of mine this last weekend that Bollywood movies need some class. We rip off Hollywood action flicks, thrillers, dramas, romantic comedies but are still not able to deliver a product which is truly international in terms of quality. Being a big bollywood movie buff, I feel sad when I compare our movies with Hollywood.

I can’t imagine talented directors like Farhan Akthar, Kunal Kohli, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Rajkumar Hirani, Aditya Chopra (No, Karan Johar, Ram Gopal Varma or Sanjay Bhansali in the list) can’t come up with one classy movie that would be in level with Hollywood standards. I expected ‘Don’ to be a classy movie but it was not….even when it was made with today’s modern technology and modern story telling. We definitely need a movie that could be a good thriller with suspense something like Mission Impossible, Broken Arrow, FaceOff.

I agree we lack in terms of modern technology but then if we can pay millions of dollars to our star actors, I am sure we can use some amount of that to get the best of technology for the movie. Most of the world’s IT technology and software are being developed in India and that means we have a rich pool of talented people that we could use. The other area where I feel we need a lot of work, is screenplay. But then what good is a screenplay without a good story. The audience is taken for a ride and is made to assume things which are logically and technologically not possible. Logic should only be kept away from comedies not thrillers, dramas or action. ‘Don’ had an amazing story but the place where it needed work is the screenplay. It’s hard to assume a desi Don in Malaysia when the story was based in India. With a pool of talented writers and directors I wouldn’t say its hard to come up with a story and a screenplay that is so strong that it can compete with the best movies in the world.

Bollywood movies have over the years relied too much on family dramas, romantic comedies, hollywood ripoffs and southindian movie remakes. Very few original ideas have made it to the big screen and those which did…have made a huge impact – Rang de Basanti, Munnabhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Dil Chahta Hai, Lagaan. I think its time for someone to move forward and accept the responsibility of creating a truly world-class movie.

BTW, I wish Rang De Basanti good luck for the Best Foriegn Film at the Oscars.

Fun things to do at a Drive-Thru

9 11 2006

1. Drive through the drive-thru in reverse and let your passenger order.
2. Ask the price of almost everything on the menu and then order something that you didn’t ask the price for.
3. Tell the employee that your window is broken. Order and then pay with your door open. When the food comes, roll down the window and snatch your order from their hands.
4. Go to McDonald’s and demand a big breakfast at 11:30 at night. Put up a fight.
5. Pay for a large order in pennies and nickels.
6. Order in another language. Be careful what neighborhood you’re in.
7. When asked if they can take your order, tell them you are just window-shopping and drive on. (My Favorite)
8. Laugh sadistically when asked if you would like ketchup.
9. Ask the cashier how they fit into that little box.
10. If they make you wait, make them wait when they come back on.
11. Demand to speak to the manager. When they come on, complain that you did not like the way the employee said, “May I take your order?”
12. When asked if they can take your order say, “Why, can I take yours?”
13. If they ask you to wait, order anyway and keep doing it till they yell at you.
14. Pretend your car has broken down. Ask for assistance moving it. When they come out, drive away.
15. Tell them you have to use the bathroom.
16. Order a cup of water and two napkins. That’s it.
17. Don’t order when they come on. Just sit there. If a line forms behind you, get out of the car and cause a scene.
18. When they hand you your food, hand them a bag with all the trash from your car in it.
19. Just stare at them when you pay and get your food. Don’t break your stare.
20. Honk your horn the whole way through the line.

I sometimes wonder if I could have chosen a totally different career path then I am on one now, what would that be??? Judging by what I like to do the most….I think that would have been NOTHING!! haha!!

But I would still have done Something out of that Nothing so then Nothing actually becomes Something. See what I m saying…..nah….don t worry about it…whatever I say doesn’t always makes sense for the sane.

Choosing a career that is about nothing would allow me to do nothing, but then if I m doing nothing that means I m actually doing something to make sure that I do nothing. For example, if I am sitting at home and not working which is doing ‘nothing’ but then come to think of it.. I m sitting at home…which is ‘something’ to do ‘nothing’. Samjhe…??
